Having began his venture into the fashion world with the introduction of CR7 by Cristiano Ronaldo Underwear and Socks, the superstar sportsman is advancing his CR7 fashion brand by taking the next step and developing a premium shirt line.

Cristiano Ronaldo has continued his partnership with New York based designer Richard Chai who is head designer of the CR7 brand.

The CDFA award winning designer Chai, who is renowned for his work with labels including Marc Jacobs and Donna Karen, collaborates with Ronaldo on design elements across CR7 Underwear and Socks, and now Shirts.

Both the CR7 Underwear, Socks and Shirt lines share the same founding principles, providing an upscale take on men’s wardrobe essentials.

CR7 Design

The CR7 Shirt collection concept shares the core ideas of the Underwear collection; based on form, function and style. We used the idea of mobility as the creative centre.

Ronaldo is best known for the way he moves on the pitch and we wanted to create a perfect collection for the active man.

The main collection is made with stretch, using the finest quality materials and giving an updated twist. The CR7 Shirt collection has a nod to tradition in its premium finishings. But the details, materials and construction of the shirts is far more fashion forward, in line with Ronaldo’s personal style. There will always be a slight twist, sexiness and edge to the line, differentiating it from other fashion collections.

We have developed signature details such as contrast piping in the necklines and a CR7 tag on the bottom side-seam and each season we will incorporate key trends. For the launch collection, we focused on colour blocking and patterned materials, such as dots, striped dobbies and printed plaid. It’s truly classic style with edge.

Richard Chai

New York native Richard Chai began his fashion career in the design studio at French powerhouse brand Lanvin.
From there he joined Donna Karan as a designer for the DKNY and D collections.
From 1998 to 2001, he was the Design Director for the Marc Jacobs’ men’s and women’s collections and helped develop the launch of the Marc by Marc Jacobs men’s line.

Two years at TSE followed, where Chai was the first Creative Director to oversee all TSE brands and divisions. After this series of career-building positions, Chai branched out to develop his own Richard Chai collection.

Through his experiences at some of the world’s most influential fashion houses, Chai developed a keen eye for detail, a reverence for architectural design elements and a strong belief in the importance and value of the construction of clothes.
Both with his own collection and in his work for his former employers, Richard’s experience has been heavily layered with intense partnerships in design, marketing, merchandising and sales to create a cohesive approach to brand-building and retail driving initiatives.

While balancing his own brand’s responsibilities, Chai has also managed to partner with brands on various consulting opportunities. These have included a multi-year consulting creative director
position with Onward Kashiyama in Japan, an accessories development with Filson and a capsule collection with Penguin. Additionally Richard’s Go International collaboration with Target utilized his strengths in design married with licensing direction (with partner Li + Fung).

In June 2010, Richard was named Swarovski Menswear Designer of the Year at the 2010 CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards. He was selected as a finalist for the 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards for womenswear and the winner of the 2005 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award.
Richard lives in New York City.

This natural progression sees the same high quality materials and superior craftsmanship that are characteristic of CR7 by Cristiano Ronaldo underwear and socks, instilled into premium men’s shirts. The new line features faultless construction with a contemporary twist, aesthetically mirroring the global superstar’s own impeccable form and unique streak. The collection includes modern and stylish options as well as more formal pieces, with a clear focus on superior quality and fit.
